Edward
Richard Seifert, age 85,
a retired farmer and rancher of Cut Bank, died Tuesday, January
10, 2006 at Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut Bank due to
natural causes. His memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday at
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cut Bank followed by a luncheon.
Graveside committal with military honors will be held at 2 p.m.
in Mountain View Cemetery in Shelby. Condolences may be sent

He is survived by his wife Betty
L. Seifert of Cut Bank; his children, Patricia (Joe)
Congdon of Manchester, Conn.,
Marlene Hedges of Big Fork, Betty Ann
Borninkhof of Sturgis, S.D., Edward R. Seifert Jr. of
Caldwell, ID, Karen Gossard of
Ethridge, Thomas P. (Nell) Seifert
of Cut Bank and Barbara (Floyd) Jenkins of Cut Bank; his
sisters, Patricia (Forest) Perkins of Enumclaw, WA and
Winnefred (Harry)
Brumgardt of Thornton, CO as well as
21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1
great-great-grandchild.
He was born January 17, 1920 to
Edward E. and Winnefred (Mathews)
Seifert on the family homestead near
Ethridge where he was raised. He graduated from Shelby
High School in 1938 and was inducted into the U.S. Coast Guard
in 1942. He married Betty Knapp on September 23, 1944 in
Seattle, WA.
Upon his discharge after the war
in 1945, they moved to Shelby where Ed worked in farming and
ranching. In 1968, they moved to Cut Bank where he continued to
farm and ranch. Due to health reasons, Ed semi-retired in 1988
Ed enjoyed woodworking, especially
with diamond willow. He was also a dedicated Boy Scout Troop
Leader for many years, taking scouts on numerous hiking and
camping trips in the mountains. He also enjoyed cattle, horses
and animals of all kinds as well as hunting.
Most important to Ed was his
family. Having a love for kids, he especially enjoyed all of
his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be
remembered as a kind and considerate man who had many friends
and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; brothers, Robert Seifert and H. Thomas Seifert; a
grandson, Shane and a great-grandson, Jacob.
