Gregory James Nesbo, 55, an electrical engineer from Bothell, WA, died unexpectedly of respiratory failure and complications of diabetes on May 5, 2009.  A memorial service will be held at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby on May 29 at 6:00 pm.  A gathering of friends will be held at the Oasis following the service.

Greg is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathleen (McGovern) Nesbo of Bothell, WA; father, John G, and stepmother, Delores, of Trego, MT; stepfather, Carl K Nelson of Shelby; brothers, Glenn (Janet) of Winchester, IL, Jerry of Boise, ID, Shawn (Tracy) of Conrad; sisters, Jane Nesbo of Shelby, Jean of Helena, Shirley Fulgham and Sheila (Rod) Robertson both of Gilbert, AZ; as well as 10 nieces and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Donna C Nelson; paternal grandparents, Gunwald and Katherine Nesbo; and maternal grandparents, Glen and Mabel Standiford.

Greg was born on June 25, 1953 in Conrad, the eldest of eight raised on a dry-land farm/ranch north of Shelby.  Greg graduated from Shelby High School then served in the US Navy during the end of the Viet Nam war era.  He was a medic and assisted in transport of several wounded soldiers out of Viet Nam.  Greg then attended the University of Washington in pre-med later transferring to the University of Montana as a pre-law student.  He left college and worked as a roughneck in the oil fields along with general contracting and being the sound engineer for “Night Shift” for many years.  He later returned to college and graduated with honors from Montana State University in 1995 with a degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Robotics.  He worked for Microsoft, Siemens, and Automated Systems in Seattle, WA.  He was a certified Electronics Technician, and a member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Biomedical Engineering Society, and the American Mensa High IQ Society.

Greg enjoyed expanding his knowledge base, computers, mathematics, tutoring college students, stimulating his nieces and nephews with ‘Scientific American’ and other science project gifts along with swimming, doing volunteer work and advocating for the less fortunate.
