Visitation is 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with rosary and vigil at 1 p.m. Monday, both at Whitted Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. William’s Catholic Church, followed by burial with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church after the burial. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Bea Mascarenas of Shelby; children Mark Mascarenas and Michael Mascarenas of Great Falls, Michelle (Jesus) Villagomez of Alviso, Calif., and Monica Mascarenas of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Selma (Walt) Sperry of Arvada, Colo.; brothers Tom (Stella) Mascarenas of Westminster, Colo., Edward (Julia) Mascarenas of Las Cruces, N.M., David “Eloy” (Vicki) Mascarenas of Everett, Wash., and Gerald Mascarenas of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren, Royana, Rose, Mystie, Alyssa and Diego; and a great-grandson, Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Celia Mascarenas; brother John “Leo” Mascarenas; and a sister, Estella Johnston. Roy was born July 12, 1940, in Denver, Colo., where he was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and married Beatrice Ana Martinez on June 8, 1963. They moved to Shelby in 1972. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector until retiring in January 2001. He had been a member of St. Williams Catholic Church since 1972. He especially enjoyed walking with his dogs at the high-school track. Roy was a hard-working man who made taking care of his family his top priority. He was a loyal husband, great father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his community of Shelby and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Shelby High School Track Fund or the donor’s local humane society. |
