Donald Earl Porter, age 80, a pipe worker for the Gas Company and Marine Corp Veteran from Shelby, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Marias Care Center due to natural causes. At his request no services are planned. Whitted Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Arlene & Maxine.

Don was born March 21, 1928 at Dunkirk to Gerald and Grace (Stevens) Porter where he attended grade school and graduated from Shelby High School where he excelled in basketball. He later played baseball on one of the area town teams.

He served with the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1951 till 1954. Following this tour of duty, he returned to Shelby and worked as a pipe worker for the gas company.

Don loved horse racing and studied all aspects of the sport.
